AITA for Walking Out of My Sister’s Wedding After She Humiliated Me with a “Family Joke”?

I (25F) have always been the “responsible one” in my family. I helped raise my younger siblings, worked two jobs during college, and even financially supported my parents during tough times. Meanwhile, my older sister, “Rachel” (30F), has always been the family favorite—outgoing, funny, and the life of the party. Last weekend, at her wedding, things escalated beyond repair.

For context, Rachel has always had a habit of “playfully” roasting me at family gatherings. It started as lighthearted teasing, like calling me “Mom Junior” because I’d remind everyone to stay organized or take their meds. Over time, though, it turned mean-spirited. She began calling me “Miss Buzzkill,” mocking me for preferring a quiet night reading over going out clubbing.

At the wedding, Rachel asked me to give a toast as her maid of honor. I took it as a huge honor and put a lot of effort into writing a heartfelt speech about her finding love and the bond we share as sisters. But when it was Rachel’s turn to speak, things went downhill.

Rachel started her speech by calling me “the woman I’ve always looked up to… as a reminder of what NOT to be.” She went on to compare me to a 1950s sitcom mom who “probably schedules fun time.” The crowd of 200 guests burst into laughter. I felt humiliated, especially since even my parents were cracking up.

I tried to keep my composure, but after the speeches ended, I excused myself to the bathroom and cried. When I returned, the jokes hadn’t stopped—guests at my table were still making comments about me being a “buzzkill” while they poured drinks. I felt trapped and couldn’t take it anymore, so I grabbed my purse and quietly left the wedding.

Since then, Rachel has been bombarding me with messages, accusing me of being “dramatic” and “ruining her big day.” My parents have taken her side, saying it was “just a joke” and that I need to “lighten up.” When I told them I was done being the family’s punching bag, they called me selfish for making the wedding about me.

So, AITA for walking out after being made the butt of a “family joke”?
