My Mom Insists I Move Out Because My Neighbor Is ‘Too Attractive’

Posted on January 21, 2025 By Munawra Munawra No Comments on My Mom Insists I Move Out Because My Neighbor Is ‘Too Attractive’

This just happened, and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. I (25F) recently moved into a nice apartment. It’s perfect—safe neighborhood, affordable rent, and great neighbors. One of them, let’s call him Jake, is super chill and around my age. We’ve had a few casual chats, and that’s it. Nothing romantic or remotely suspicious.

Yesterday, my mom came over for a visit. As Jake was leaving his apartment, she saw him and immediately asked, “Who’s that?” I told her he was my neighbor, and that’s when the grilling began: “Do you like him? Are you dating him? Are you sleeping with him??”

I laughed and reassured her, “No, Mom, he’s just my neighbor.” I thought that would settle things. Oh, how wrong I was.

This morning, at 7 a.m., she called me and said she’d been thinking about Jake all night. Her conclusion? I have to move out. Why? Because, in her words, “Jake is too attractive, and it’s only a matter of time before he seduces you and ruins your life.”

I was floored. I told her she was overreacting, but she launched into a rant about how men like Jake “only have one thing on their minds” and that I was “too naive” to realize it. I tried explaining that Jake and I barely talk, but she wasn’t listening.

Then came the kicker: “If you don’t move out by next month, I’ll have to come over and ‘take care of him’ myself.” What does that even mean?! I told her she was being ridiculous and ended the call.

Since then, she’s bombarded me with messages like, “You’re disrespecting me,” “I’m only trying to protect you,” and “You’ll thank me one day.”

I finally blocked her number and decided to go no-contact for now because this isn’t the first time she’s pulled something like this.

AITAH for cutting her off over this? (Also, let me know if you want more stories—she’s a goldmine of bizarre drama.)

TL;DR: Mom thinks my neighbor is too attractive and demanded I move out. She threatened to “take care of him” if I didn’t, so I went no-contact.
